Teknek have been involved in supplying yield improvement solutions for the Converting Industry for many years. Within the last 10 years a specific programme of machines have been developed for narrow and wide web, horizontal, vertical, single, double sided and many custom designed applications. Using highly efficient elastomer cleaning rollers which contact the web, particle sizes down to 1 micron can be removed from materials running at speeds upto 500m/min (1650ft/min).
Contamination and dust can cause downtime, reduce quality and create rejects. In almost any reel to reel application large amounts of static electricity are generated which can also act as a dust magnet, attracting contamination onto the web.
Often referred to as 'hickeys' label printers know how damaging a small particle of dust can be to the finished print quality, how much time is lost cleaning printing plates and how much label stock has to be rejected as a result. Particle contamination on the web in a silicon coating application can cause voids to the coating, affecting its release characteristics.
In laminating applications it is vital that both the inner and outer surfaces of both substrates are clean before entering the laminating rollers, otherwise contamination may be trapped within the finished product .
The Holographic embossing process also requires completely dust free surfaces on both the foils and embossing plates, as contamination will effect the surface texture of the embossed areas, or cause damage to the embossing plates (shims).
